Kidney Function and Cerebral Blood Flow: The Rotterdam Study.

CKD is linked with various brain disorders. Whereas brain integrity is dependent on cerebral perfusion, the association between kidney function and cerebral blood flow has yet to be determined. This study was performed in the framework of the population-based Rotterdam Study and included 2645 participants with mean age of 56.6 years (45% men). We used eGFR and albumin-to-creatinine ratio to ass...

Effect of Dextran on Cerebral Function and Blood Flow

EEG activity and regional cerebral blood flow were monitored during S hour survival following cardiac arrest in 32 pentobarbital anesthetized mongrel dogs. The animals were mechanically ventilated and blood gases were maintained at physiologic levels. Regional cerebral blood flow and cardiac output were measured using 15 n microspheres. EEG was recorded from 6 epidural electrodes using bipolar ...

Whole blood viscosity and cerebral blood flow.

BLOOD has anomalous rheological properties, particularly in certain disease states. It may therefore be necessary to consider these properties when attempting to assess and perhaps to improve the state of a patient's cerebral circulation. So what evidence is there that cerebral blood flow (CBF) is affected by viscosity? Before attempting to answer this question, one should be aware of what infl...

Ergotamine and cerebral blood flow.

We measured the cerebral blood flow (CBF) of 16 patients by the xenon-133 intracarotid method before and after the intramuscular injection of ergotamine tartrate. The regional and hemispheric CBF was unaltered, even in 3 migraneurs in who ergotamine relieved the headache. Ergotamine tartrate in therapeutic doses has no effect on the cerebral circulation.

Hyperventilation and cerebral blood flow.

Hyperventilation and Cerebral Blood Flow • Hypocapnic-hyperventilation has a profound, but probably temporary, effect on CBF, producing approximately a 2% decline in CBF for each 1 torr decline in Pcov Th' effect appears to be mediated through changes in perivascular pH of the cerebral resistance vessels acting directly on the vessel wall. At low PC0;( the vasoconstrictor effect of short-term h...
